I think we had something like this:

Civil Rights (Main Topic)

Pre-War, After the War, Civil Rights Movement, Racism

each subtopic would have additional sub-topics like people and events.

Come In At Lunch

Mrs. Lathrope says that we need to come in at lunch to figure out what exactly we're going to do. I had to make the flow chart and a lot of it didn't make sense when both Mrs. Lathrope and I read over it.

Final Plan

Umm I need a little help finishing the final plan cause i don't remember everything we talked about in class. Mary and Marc do you guys remember the subtopics?
We still need a sub-topic for background of the civil rights (civil war, slavery, indentured servents) and effects of the war (how civilization was after). We're also considering moving the 13th amendment to this category from important events.

I think that we should split into groups for topics and we will connect them later.

Website owner

So who in our group is willing to create the website? I anyone wants to go for it.

Blog Setup

From looking at everyone's posts i think i figured out what our website should look like:
Four topics with two subtopics for each, that way we can assign two people to each topic and each can do a subtopic. I think our topics should be

Civil rights movement

  • MLK
  • Malcom X
Pre War

  • South
  • North
During the war

  • Frederick Douglas
  • Abraham Lincoln
Post War

  • Emancipation Proclamation's effects
  • African American's acceptance
We can pick topic later but tell me what you think, changes etc.

Topics

I think we should have about four sub topics and have

  1. Significant people

  2. Important events

  3. Outcome of the movement

  4. Before the movement

There should be about two people working on each of these topics. This could work.

Home Page Format

I think that we should have a list of our broad subjects. Then when someone clicks on the subject, more specific subjects in that subject will appear. Then that will take them to the page.

ex. MLK
speeches
polices acts
protests
...

pre-war
Fredrick Douglass
...
Civil war
African americans in war
...
civil war movement
MLK
...

Catagories

We should have catagories called civil rights movement, civil war, and pre-war. Under civil rights movement, we should have people, and important events. Under civil war, African American role in the war and Southern reasoning. Under pre-war, triangle trade and plantation south. What do you think?

First, I think we should have our website be aimed for middle school kids or high schoolers. This will make it easier to transfer the information we learn or read about to the website. We won't have to modify it so it is appropriate for elementary school kids. Also a few people Oliver and Jack haven't mentioned yet that we should research is Thurgood Marshall, James Meredith, Jesse Jackson, and Bob Moses.

We should do something on the treatment of blacks over the years from the underground railroad to MLK and now
Things to include:
the KKK
police during MLK
rodney king
rosa parks
Does anyone else have any ideas on people?

Content

Here are a couple ideas for people/subjects we could put on the blog tell me what you think.

  1. We probably want to do MLK because he is such a big figure in Civil Rights
  2. Rosa Parks because she was one of the first to rebel for the cause
  3. Abraham Lincoln maybe because he made the emancipation proclamation
  4. Malcom X because he basically was fighting for the same stuff as MLK
  5. Harriet Tubman because she helped so many slaves achieve freedom
  6. Fredrick Douglass because he was fighting for the Civil rights before the movement became one
These aren't final ideas and we probably cant do all of them so tell me who you think we should definately do and we can eliminate the others.
I think that our website should include background on slavery and the slave trade. It will help others to better understand the movement. What do you think?

Audience

I think the audience should be other people in middle school or possibly high school because we are around their age and they will understand what we are saying better than anyone else.
What do you guys think?
